Cassini's imaging of Earth on July 19, 2013 was an event that was shared the world over. It was the first time we inhabitants of Earth had advance knowledge that we and our planet would be imaged from nearly a billion miles away.
From the US to New Zealand, England to South Africa, we used the opportunity to contemplate our cosmic whereabouts, the uniqueness of our lush, life-giving planet, and the significance of our own existence.
Here are the images of Earth, taken during that event, that we all have been waiting for. (Press release can be found here.)
